Reeth Holiday Cottages
Your Yorkshire Dales Holiday Starts Here...
Tucked away in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, our four family-run holiday cottages in Reeth offer a peaceful place to relax and explore.
With over five generations of family history behind them, each self-catering cottage has its own story – and a warm welcome waiting.
At Reeth Holiday Cottages, history runs through the stone walls and into the heart of the village.
Burton House and Greystones were once part of a single property – Askrigg House, built in 1910 by my great-great-grandfather. After purchasing the old corn mill in Reeth, he set about creating something remarkable. More than just a home, Askrigg House and its outbuildings formed part of a small industrial complex that played a vital role in the village’s development.
One of those outbuildings, Turbine House, was used to generate electricity for Reeth – a pioneering move for its time and a huge benefit to the local community. Long before mains electricity reached the Dales, the cottages were helping to power village life.
The buildings originally belonged to the old corn mill, which served Reeth and the wider Swaledale area. When the mill fell into disuse, my great-great-grandfather saw its potential – not just as a family home, but as a source of innovation and progress.
Charlie’s Stable, a beautifully converted stone barn, adds to that story. Once a working stable and part of the original outbuildings, it’s now a cosy retreat full of charm. It’s named after a much-loved pony that lived there in more recent years – a nod to the continued connection between the buildings, the land, and family life in Reeth.
Over a century later, the cottages remain an important part of Reeth’s built heritage. While lovingly restored and updated to offer comfort and quality for our guests, they still retain the character and purpose that made them so valued in the past. Thick stone walls, original features, and the echoes of rural ingenuity make them more than just places to stay – they’re part of the living story of this village.
As a family, we’re proud to continue that legacy by sharing these special buildings with guests from near and far. We hope you’ll enjoy their history as much as we do.
